The Orange Street General Store is named for the Orange Street in Merkel, Texas on which both my maternal grandmother--Mimmy--and my great uncle and aunt--Unc and Auntie--lived. I spent much of my childhood playing in their backyards and absorbing their lessons and advice. On this page, you will find a mix of family traditions and wisdom, advice direct from Mimmy, Unc, and Auntie, and a host of resources on health, self-sufficiency, and faith. Stay tuned in the months to come. There's more on the way.
I learned more from Rosa Miller (Auntie, left), Raymond Miller (Unc, middle), and his sister, Evelyn Martin (Mimmy, right), than I could ever hope to articulate. They all had a hand in teaching me the value of the Bible, learning, self-sufficiency, and the simple pleasures in life. In many ways this page is a monument to them.
